Pacific Islands

The Pacific offers something that is unique, big waves. It is quite a sight to see 20ft waves crashing with surfers coming out at the end. The islands were all formed by valconoes and have a rougher feel than the Caribbean Islands. You definitely get the impression that these island were formed through rough natural forces. These are the perfect travel desatinations for those who love the ocean and nature.

Hawaii

Hawaii is made up of several islands; Hawaii, Oahu, Mauai, Kauai, and other smaller islands.

Hawaii (The Big Island) is the largest island. It has an active volcano and is spectacular in the evening. Volcanoes National Park is where you will find the remnants of the volcanic flow along with the active flow. A word of caution, DO NOT TAKE LAVA ROCKS as a souvenir. It is not only illegal, but it is also considered bad luck. It is told that Pele, the goddess of the volcano, curses those who take a lava rock. On my first trip there, I made the mistake of taking a lava rock. While it was in my pocket, I broke my ankle on the way back. I am not saying that it is necessarily because of the lava rock, but I'll never chance it again.

Ohau (The Main Island) is where you will find Honolulu and Waikiki beach. Honolulu is a good size city and has everything associated with a city, including traffic and crowds. Waikiki beach is not the place where you can have a romantic walk on the beach. You will be too busy avoiding sunbathers. However, once you get away from Honolulu, you will enjoy the natural wonders of the rest of the island. Definitely take a day to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center and try to catch the huge waves of the north shore.

Kauai (The Garden Island) is the most beautiful of all the islands. If you want to see video of the island, just watch Jurassic Park. It is home to the wettest spot on earth, which means planty of waterfalls. The west side of the island is very dry and gets 2 inches of rain a year. It is home of the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, which is a mini version of the Grand Canyon. The south side is the tourist side which has
calmer beaches. The east side has the Wailua River, which is a very large navigable river many use for kayaking. The North shore has the Napali coast which makes for the greatest hikes.

Mauai (The Valley Island) is a beautiful tourist destination. This island has all the amenities and natural settings that one could desire. It has the beautiful green valley and the secluded beaches, while the tourism industry is geared toward the spa-like experience.

Fiji

Although Fiji has the palm trees, sandy beaches, and coral reefs like many other Pacific islands, the people of the island makes this a great destination. They are very welcoming and friendly and make your stay an enjoyable one.

Fiji also has scuba diving and a picturesque natural setting. Accomodations range from secluded to guest houses on the beach to the high-end resorts.

Tahiti

French Tahiti is another ideal destination. From lounging around to diving and snorkeling in the lagoons, there is no way you will not enjoy yourself. If you have the means, I strongly recommend you stay in the overwater bungalows. You will get to sleep above the turquoise lagoon in first class accomodations.
