Central America

Central America is comprised of all the Countries south of Mexico and North of Columbia in South America. The most popular travel destinations are Costa Rica, Belize, and Guatemala. Among these, only Belize has English as their national language.

Belize

Belize, formerly known as "British Honduras", is a small country just below Mexico in the eastern portion of the Yucatan Peninsula. Sporting the Northern Hemisphere's largest coral reefs just off its shores, it is an ideal diving destination. San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye, is the place to be. From here you can go out on a dive any day, lounge just off the shores, or go on jungle river cruises and venture out to see Mayan Ruins. Although it is anideal vacation for couples, children may get a bit bored. However, they can participate in fishing off the tiny piers with local children. From these piers, you can see the fish you are going to catch before it bites.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is probably the most popular travel destination in Central America because, there is plenty for the tourist to do. Among the options are zip-lining the jungle tree canopy, white water rafting, diving, laying on the shore, and deep sea fishing. You can even choose the type of ocean to look upon, between the grand Pacific and the calm Caribbean.

Costa Rica also has a number of national parks and volcanoes that offer an array of activity. These areas offer a number of way to see nature and its various wildlife. This is a unique destination and is definitely geared to the adventurer in everyone.

Guatemala

While Guatemala does not have the mature tourism industry as Costa Rica, it has many of the same natural features. Guatemala does have something that no other Central American country offers; Tikal, the greatest Mayan Ruins in the Americas. It rivals the Valley of the Kings in Egypt and Machu Pichu in Peru. Tikal is comprised of over 3000 structures, most of which are still being escavated. A day is not enough to see everything, but you will get to see how great this civilization was. In other words, Tikal is worth the trip alone.
